Character Information
*Character Name: Fairy Leviathan (AKA the Siren General)
*Character Canon: Mega Man Zero
*Age: Approximately 100 years old
*Race: Reploid
*Timeline/Pull Point: End of Mega Man Zero 3
*History: To really understand the context of Leviathan's life, we have to go way back to the beginning. Early in the 21st century, a scientist named Dr. Thomas Light succeeded in building a series of humanoid robots built for household duties and civil services, along with three robots that looked completely human. An old school fellow named Dr. Albert Wily, jealous of Dr. Light, stole the work robots and attempted to use them to take over the world. One of Dr. Light's robots, Rock, was upgraded to the fighter model Mega Man to battle these robots, as Wily attempted again and again to take over the world. Sometimes he built his own, and sometimes he stole robots from other scientists.
Devastated by the fact that these robots were being forced to do these things due to their programming, Dr. Light set out to build a robot with free will and the ability to choose between right and wrong. Unbeknownst to Light, Wily had set out to build the ultimate robot to defeat both Mega Man and his own creation, Bass. Simultaneously, Wily began to write a virus that caused robots to go berserk. Dr. Light eventually finished his new robot, Mega Man X, but decided to seal him away for 30 years while a computer ran a morality check on X's cognitive programming. Wily worked hard on his new robot, Zero, but a flaw in his cognitive programming made him violent and rebellious. Unable to fix the flaw, Wily sealed Zero away in a capsule along with the virus.
It's unknown what happened afterward, but a hundred years later Mega Man X's capsule was unearthed in an archaeological dig conducted by a man named Dr. Cain. Fascinated by X's programming and design, Cain did his best to analyze X's systems, and while he didn't manage to completely replicate them he did manage to copy them well enough to begin mass producing the new type of robot that he called Reploids (from the words replica and android). Reploids, like X, were made to mimic humans physically and mentally. Reploids had free will, but they had not gone through the same morality test as X and were more susceptible to moral corruption and ethical decay. Not long after X was reactivated, this vulnerability became clear as some Reploids began to rebel against the humans. These violent Reploids were called Mavericks, and a pseudo-militaristic organization of human-friendly Reploids was formed to protect humans. These Reploids were known as Maverick Hunters. X became a member of the 17th unit, which was led by the Reploid known as Sigma. One day, a powerful red Maverick wiped out an entire unit of Maverick Hunters. Sigma was the leader of the Maverick Hunters at that time, and went to take care of the Maverick, which turned out to be a reactivated Zero. Sigma barely managed to defeat Zero by breaking the energy crystal on his helmet and knocking him out. An unfortunate side effect of this battle was that both Zero and Sigma ended up infected by the virus Wily had stored in the capsule along with Zero. Weirdly enough, something happened that fixed the programming flaw in Zero, and he was normal and sane when he next awoke.
This virus, later known as the Maverick Virus, eventually drove Sigma to violently rebel against the Maverick Hunters, taking the entire 17th unit with him. X was the only one who refused to go, and he and Zero defeated the Sigma and his Mavericks. They did this over and over again, defeating Sigma each time he was revived. However, they were not always successful; during the fifth Maverick Uprising, Sigma managed to crash an orbiting colony into Earth, causing devastating damage that was never fully fixed. Eventually, Zero realized that he was infected with the Maverick Virus, and allowed himself to be sealed again so that scientists might analyze him to try and find a vaccine for the Maverick Virus. Out of this research came a new type of technology: Cyber Elves, sentient computer programs that were capable of existing in reality in the form of small elf-like beings made of pure energy. The first Cyber Elf was known as the Mother Elf, and it could reverse the effects of the Maverick Virus and eradicate it completely.
After the virus was eradicated, X founded a sprawling metropolis called Neo Arcadia, with the intention of making a safe place where humans and Reploids could coexist peacefully. A self-contained city covered by a bio-dome known as the Eden Dome, it had all the comforts humans and Reploids could want. But a scientist who had been a part of the team that had developed the Mother Elf was dissatisfied with this peace. This man, Dr. Weil, loathed Reploids as he believed they had gotten off easy for the destruction and death caused by the Maverick Uprisings, and that Reploids should submit to humans. Stealing the Mother Elf, Weil reprogrammed her into the Dark Elf and made two Baby Elf clones. These Baby Elves were used to control Reploids, forcing them to fight and destroy each other. Along with that, Weil would send a ginormous Reploid known as Omega into battle, and over the next four years the destruction was so great that 90% of all Reploids and 60% of all humans were slaughtered. X was unable to destroy Omega by himself, and Zero was eventually reactivated temporarily to help X take Omega down. While Omega was not destroyed, he was damaged enough that he was unable to fight. Dr. Weil was exiled from Neo Arcadia and Omega was banished into orbit, and was launched in a shuttle into space. The remaining humans, so devastated by the Elf Wars and raging from Weil being given a lenient sentence by his Eight Gentle Judges, mobbed Weil and forced him into a regenerative armor, making it impossible for him to forget what he had done or even die in the ravaged wasteland that the rest of the world had become.
Not long after the end of the Elf Wars, four Reploids were created from X's DNA data. These Reploids were Harpuia, Phantom, Leviathan and Fafnir, and they had been made to help protect the humans of Neo Arcadia and make the land outside of Eden Dome habitable again. Leviathan was created with the ability to control water currents and temperatures, so she was tasked with the job of cleaning the water of Earth, which had been polluted to toxic levels during the Elf Wars. She was paired with Harpuia, who could control wind currents, to help move humans move into the habitable areas that they had helped restore. Not long before the beginning of the games, the Four Guardians were appointed generals of the four military units of Neo Arcadia. Fafnir led Neo Arcadia's Scorched Earth Squadron, Harpuia led the Strong Air Battalion, Phantom led the Cutting Shadow Squadron, and Leviathan led the Deep Sea Squadron. Each took on at least one disciple; Leviathan took a Reploid known as Blizzack Straggroff under her wing.
However, X was forced to seal the Dark Elf within his own body, sealing himself away in the center of Neo Arcadia in an area known as Yggdrasil. The shock of sealing the Dark Elf within his body forced his mind out in the form of a Cyber Elf that looked like an amorphous ball of energy. He hadn't told anyone his plan and his Cyber Elf was nowhere to be found, so his disappearance caused panic in the government of Neo Arcadia. A genetically engineered child prodigy, Ciel (who was only 6 at the time), created a supposed perfect copy of Mega Man X using his DNA data. For several years, this worked fine, as this X was a peaceful ruler. It didn't take long for something to go wrong. Neo Arcadia was plunged into an energy crisis, and the copy X, lacking the experience and memories of the original, had no clue how to fix this and so defaulted to what he was made to do: protect humans at all cost. Convinced that Reploids were the root of the problem due to their energy consumption, X and the Eight Gentle Judges soon began judging many Reploids in the city as Mavericks. Soon, the Four Guardians and their armies were helping to retire "Mavericks" by the dozens. Despite their misgivings, they could not doubt X's accusations, and they took their job to retire these Mavericks seriously. Feeling horribly guilty and responsible for the retirement of so many Reploids, Ciel gathered a small resistance force and fled Neo Arcadia. The Resistance was too small and not well-equipped enough to fight Neo Arcadia's superior forces, and were easily overcome. Knowing they needed help, Ciel decided to take a gamble, and took a small unit out into the wilderness to find Zero. Easily overcoming any opposition Neo Arcadia had, Zero soon came across the Four Guardians. After so long, Zero was practically a legend, and Leviathan could barely contain her excitement at getting to defeat such a powerful Reploid. She was defeated, but that hardly bothered her. Zero was the first real challenge outside of the other Guardians she had faced in such a long time, and she couldn't wait to get her hands on him again.
And she would get her chance for a rematch not long afterward, as Zero had infiltrated the inner sanctum of Neo Arcadia Tower. Unable to defeat him, Leviathan swore that she would personally retire Zero, loving the challenge he posed but loathing him as an enemy of Neo Arcadia. The other Guardians were also unable to defeat him, and Phantom self-destructed in a desperate bid to keep Zero away from Copy X. But Zero went on to defeat Copy X, causing Area X to collapse in the resulting explosion. Harpuia secretly assumed control in Copy X's stead, and the remaining Guardians did their best to cope with their increased responsibilities. Zero had disappeared after defeating Copy X, and the Guardians were glad to get at least a slight reprieve in their bid to quash the Resistance.
About one year after Zero disappeared, one of the many mass-produced Reploids working in the Neo Arcadian Bureau of Administrative Services, TK-31, had fled Neo Arcadia after accidentally stumbling upon highly classified data while on a data retrieval mission. Branded as a Maverick, TK-31 renamed himself Elpizo after a project codename from the data he had seen, and joined the Resistance. Ciel wanted to work on a new energy system to solve the energy crisis, so she named Elpizo as the new Resistance leader. Elpizo began to plan Operation Righteous Strike with the intent of destroying Neo Arcadia, though he agreed to cancel the operation if Ciel managed to finish her new energy system in time. Zero reappeared at this time and again helped the Resistance fight against Neo Arcadia. Elpizo felt confident that Operation Righteous Strike would succeed, and launched his attack. However, the three Guardians easily wiped out the Resistance's forces, informing Zero that they were about to launch a missile at the Resistance Base. Ciel, with the help of Zero, barely managed to change the missile's course before they were forced to retreat.
Devastated by being so soundly defeated, Elpizo fled the Resistance Base, intent on awakening the Dark Elf so he could use her powers. Zero rushed to find him, but was held up by the Guardians everywhere he went. Leviathan was excited to see Zero again after so long, even taking her defeat in stride. She retreated back to Neo Arcadia, but by this time Elpizo had infiltrated Neo Arcadia, and used the power of the Baby Elves to force the Guardians to fight in their powerful Armed Phenomenon forms. Defeated by Zero once again, the Guardians were helpless to do anything as Zero burst into Yggdrasil. Unfortunately he was too late to stop Elpizo from destroying original X's body, freeing the Dark Elf from her prison. Using her power, Elpizo tried to destroy Zero, but was killed and the Dark Elf fled from Yggdrasil.
Two months later, a spaceship crashed in the wastelands outside of Neo Arcadia. Heading to investigate, Leviathan and Fafnir were the first to make it into the ship. There they found Omega, awakened once more and ready to continue sowing destruction. The two tried their best to defeat Omega, but were soundly trounced. When Zero showed up in the middle of their fight, the Guardians retreated to Neo Arcadia for repairs. There, Leviathan and Fafnir both fell unconscious from their wounds. With Weil's return, both were shoved aside and left in disrepair, with only two scientists being spared to keep them alive. Harpuia was now the only Guardian left that was able to act, but could no longer do much as Weil had revived Copy X and been declared an important guest of Neo Arcadia. However, Weil had planted a booby trap within Copy X, which exploded when Copy X attempted to take his large Armed Phenomenon form to fight Zero. Weil then assumed command of Neo Arcadia, using the Dark Elf and Omega to control the Reploids in the city. Zero tried to defeat Omega, even after finding out that Omega was inhabiting his original body and that his mind had been placed in a copy. Leviathan and Fafnir were awoken by the Cyber Elf that X had become, joining up with Harpuia to help Zero defeat Omega. Their attacks weakened Omega enough to give Zero a chance to defeat him. In the resulting explosion, the remaining Guardians were killed, too damaged and weak to escape the blast.
*Personality: On the surface, Leviathan is sly and flirty, showing intense enjoyment at the prospect of fighting Zero every time they meet. She revels in taunting and flirting with her opponents before fighting them, and tends to call the other Guardians by silly nicknames to annoy them. She sometimes comes across as selfish and self-absorbed, wanting to finish missions quickly because she wants to return to her pool, or teleporting out before the other Guardians when overwhelmed. She's vain and arrogant, and hates being on land because she insists it makes her "dusty". Leviathan isn't afraid to use her cute looks and small size to her advantage. If her opponent is dumb enough to feel like she can't fight because of how she looks, then they pretty much deserve whatever they get. Zero refused to let her looks affect his judgment of her, and Leviathan enjoyed not being underestimated for once, and she even called Zero rude for not retiring her. She will do whatever she needs to ensure her victory, and is a rather ruthless fighter. This is especially true when she's protecting humans or someone she cares for. She was made to protect humans and takes this duty seriously, to the point that she focuses on helping humans in lieu of taking care of herself. Leviathan can get easily frustrated by little things or plans not going her way, but it takes a lot to make her truly angry, and threatening humans or her loved ones never fails to send her into a rage.
Leviathan may have been an antagonist, but she is far from evil despite her actions. As one of the Four Guardians, Leviathan takes pride in her role and is completely confident in her ability to carry out any orders given to her, and has the determination to carry out her orders to completion. If she fails in her mission, she gets upset, but knows that her skills are necessary and doesn't fear any potential retribution. She may not be as diplomatic and refined as Harpuia, but she's capable of diplomacy if the situation calls for it. As a general, Leviathan is able to command and hold the attention and loyalty of the soldiers in her unit, as she cares for them on some level and gets quite upset if anyone kills someone she considers her own. Her sense of duty to X is not as strong as the other Guardians, but she is fiercely loyal to him all the same; in a drama track she shows disgust at the idea of helping Zero fight Omega, but agrees because X is the one asking her to do so. X is basically the only person whose orders she will follow unconditionally even if she disagrees with them. There are very few people Leviathan trusts completely, and once her loyalty is gained it's pretty much yours for life. She is protective and caring towards those she cares about and considers her own, but she's not afraid to call them stupid if the situation calls for it. Then again, she tends to speak her mind with everyone, not afraid of coming across as rude or mean.
*Powers/Abilities: Reploids were made to resemble humans, but in physical appearance and mental processes only. Leviathan is about 3 times stronger than a human, able to move about twice as fast as humans, and can take quite a bit more punishment before going down for the count. Despite her petite size (she's probably 5ft, 4in at most because of her heels) and lithe build, Leviathan is surprisingly strong. In the second game, if Zero gets too close to her, she'll swing her Javelin and smack him clear across the room. While it's harder to kill her, she's not immortal and depending on where the wound is inflicted, she can be killed just as easily as a human. If her head or the central power core in her chest are destroyed, she'll die immediately. If one of her main hydraulic lines severed, she'll "bleed out" within 10 minutes if it's not closed off in some way. Surprisingly, the hydraulic fluid she bleeds is red like human blood. She is also dependent on energy crystals to live, as she will shut down if her power core is completely depleted (whether this will kill her or not is unknown, though it is assumed that it does indeed kill her). It is possible to revive Reploids after deactivation or retirement, but this subject is considered taboo and is not well-known. She is capable of basic repairs and field triage, but just enough to keep a Reploid from dying before it can be taken to a mechanic.
Leviathan can switch her vision from normal to night vision, and can change how sensitive her hearing is. She has a built-in comm link, and has an internal HUD which warns her of damage and that can be used to process data. She can process data at a rate that would be completely incomprehensible to a human, and her Naval unit also specializes in data retrieval and hacking. Leviathan is a highly talented hacker and can hack through most firewalls quicker than a human or a brute force program can. Leviathan can sustain herself underwater without having to worry about rusting or leaking, and can presumably stay in the water indefinitely as long as she has energy crystals. She has two thrusters sticking out of her helmet that can be used underwater to greatly increase her speed, and while they can be used out of the water, at most they're only good for slowing her down if she's moving at high speeds. However, it takes a lot of energy to use her thrusters so she tries not to use them unless needed, and in the water she generally doesn't need them. Her small size has the unfortunate side effect of making her more vulnerable to powerful attacks since her armor is thin, but this also allows her to move fast enough to avoid most attacks. Because of this Leviathan is better at long range attacks, but isn't completely helpless when needing to fight in close quarters. She can use pretty much any weapon given to her, but prefers her javelin above all else.
Leviathan was made to purify the toxic water on Earth after the Elf Wars, so she can control water currents and temperature. Most of her attacks use her Frost Javelin, which she can change the size and shape of. The most obvious example of her power is that Leviathan can freeze water into sharp ice crystals and use water currents to launch them at her opponents. She can freeze water into any size and shape, and as long as she's submerged completely in water she has complete control over where it goes. The most powerful use of her powers is creating an ice dragon several times her size that will ram into an enemy at high speeds. These are just a few examples from the game, but it's assumed that Leviathan can do pretty much whatever she wants with water provided she has enough of it around. She can also cause whirlpools by spinning her Javelin quickly. She can use her powers outside of water, but they're much more limited. She can draw moisture out of the air and freeze it, but this requires a lot of energy and depends entirely on if there's even enough moisture in the atmosphere to draw on. Leviathan is also capable of shooting torpedoes from her Javelin, though the "how" of this is unclear. From gameplay video, it looks like she's launching the sharp head of the javelin while freezing a new one as soon as it launches.
Weirdly enough, Leviathan is extremely susceptible to fire and fire-based attacks. Any high heat attack will melt her ice instantly, and her thin armor isn't great for withstanding the heat.
She has her Armed Phenomenon form, but as is par for the course with Capcom, I have no idea how it works. My assumption is that it's summoned armor because the mass shift is too great for it to be a built-in transformation, so I'm just going to go ahead and say she doesn't have access to it.
*Inventory: Her Frost Javelin.
*Starting Polarity:I have no preference :> Nexic
Writing Samples
*First Person Sample:
I'm...alive?
Ha ha. That's unexpected. Harpuia? Fafnir? You two alright? I would just hate to be here by myself. How about you, Zero? Are you here or did you manage to escape? I would be terribly upset if you got yourself killed before I could retire you.
Ow...anyone know where a lady can get some repairs around here? My armor is absolutely ruined...and I'm so dusty. I never did get to have that swim in the pool.
Would anyone be so kind as to tell me where I am? Nothing here looks anything like Neo Arcadia.
*Third Person Sample:
Leviathan could see stars.
Which was wrong, because the last thing she could remember was being underground in that ruined old laboratory. And they weren't the stars she was used to seeing when she had to venture outside of the Eden Dome. She grimaced and rolled herself onto her stomach, squinting into the darkness around her for a moment before switching to night vision.
Nothing but rocks. Seeing a veritable wasteland wasn't too surprising, but Leviathan had been all over Earth, and this didn't look like anywhere she had ever been before. Pushing herself up, she groaned lowly at the pain sparking across her circuitry as she forced herself into a standing position. She swayed for a moment, a bit unbalanced from the loss of oil, and then set off in a random direction. She couldn't hear anything but wind whistling over the barren land, nor could she see any lights reflecting off the atmosphere that signaled a city.
"Pretty boy? Combat idiot?"
She stopped and leaned over to plant her hands on her thighs, switching back to normal vision to conserve energy. She sighed and straightened so she could continue walking, "Zerooooo~? If you can hear me, you need to stop being so rude and come help an injured lady."
Leviathan wasn't sure how long she could keep walking, especially if she didn't get repairs or energy crystals soon. But she would go as long as she could, until she either found signs of life or ceased to function.
